1000 Drum Project Launched in Morogoro, Tanzania

Locarich Orphanage Organization Visit in partnership with ECOWICE

In a small corner of Morogoro, Tanzania, a powerful rhythm echoed through the orphanage grounds, marking the triumphant launch of the 1,000 Drum Project—an initiative rooted in cultural celebration, emotional healing, and community empowerment. Led by Maseh Nchang, the event unfolded with a moment of quiet magic: as the instruments emerged from the vehicle, everyone’s eyes lit up with excitement, and the atmosphere instantly transformed, pulsing with joyful energy and a lot of noise. It can also become chaotic if proper instructions are not given to the kids.

Once past the excitement stage, we gathered everyone for introductions;

Asante means Thank you in Swahili, the national language.

This wasn’t just a donation; it was the start of something much greater.

The 1,000 Drum Project connects communities through rhythm, one circle at a time. By supporting African artisans, distributing culturally rooted (traditional) instruments, and facilitating drum circles across the continent, the initiative sparks emotional well-being and creative expression wherever it lands.

The Morogoro launch was a powerful case in point. Laughter rose with the beat, and barriers melted as young participants expressed themselves freely. At the 2:32 mark in the event’s documentary video below, Felician Ezekiel, CEO of ECOWICE, shared heartfelt reflections on the event’s impact, describing the circle as “It was a very special day for the kids.”

We’re growing! Trust Drum Circles is developing impactful programs across African countries to uplift at-risk youth, refugees, and support local village communities through rhythm, culture, and connection.
